Workshop’s Topic: Third-party vendors are key suppliers of functional toolkits for app development. Developers often face uncertainty about using these external software development kits (SDKs). This study investigates how third-party SDKs impact mobile app market performance, drawing on platform ecosystem literature and boundary object theory. Analyzing a dataset of 335,958 multi-homing apps, we find that using more third-party SDKs correlates with increased daily active users, particularly for tool-type SDKs, though this effect is influenced by platform updates and developer experience.
