Curriculum

PhD program enables you to stimulate and challenge your thinking by working with the finest research minds. As a PhD student, you are considered an integral part of ZJUSOM’s research community, and we seek to encourage and support you in every way we can. As a result, you will be equipped with a solid foundation in your discipline and a range of approaches that will shape your thinking and expand your ability to identify innovative solutions to the most challenging issues.

The doctoral program at the School is individualized and composed of four closely linked phases of study:
1) courses to acquire in-depth knowledge of students’ field of specialization and methodologies;

2) a qualification examination at the beginning of the third-year of study to evaluate mastery of students’ major field;

3) preparation of the formal research proposal; and

4) completion of dissertation under the supervision of faculty supervisors.

The expected length of study for students with master degree is 3.5 years.

The 5-year doctoral program is for those enrolled with a waiver for the National Doctorate Entrance Examination. (Domestic applicants only)

Courses for the 5-year doctoral program are delivered in both Chinese and English.

We are now accepting applications for September 2026 intake. Overseas applicants should apply through International College.
