Understanding Team Newcomer Onboarding from the Perspective of Team Insiders | Episode No.92
2024-06-27

Workshop’s Topic: The process of employee onboarding into new teams and organizations is often dynamic and involves mutual and constant interactions between newcomers and insiders of the team/organization. The current state of the newcomer socialization and onboarding literature has a predominant focuson newcomers’ experiences, leaving insiders’ experiences with and influences on newcomer socialization relatively under explored. In this talk, I will present two research to advance the understanding of team newcomer onboarding from the perspective of team insiders. In the first research (Liu et al., 2023), I will discuss empirical findings on how and when teaminsiders’ affective reactions toward newcomers influence team collective functioning and effectiveness. In the second research, I will present a formal theoretical model using the agent-basedmodeling approach to more systematically articulate how exactly team insiders’ influences on newcomer socialization unfold given both newcomers’ and insiders’ characteristics.
