The subject of Tourism and Hotel Management of School of Management at Zhejiang University ranks among the top in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subjects, following its outstanding performance in the domestic and overseas authoritative lists such as ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020 and Evaluation of International Influence of China Tourism Academic Research.
According to the QS WUR by Subjects 2021 published on March 4, the subject of Tourism and Hotel Management ranked among the world’s top 50 and No.1 in Chinese Mainland with an overall score of 53.3.
The “QS World University Rankings” published by QS Global Education Group is currently the most popular ranking of universities worldwide, which is also one of the rankings with the most participating institutions and the widest influence scope in the world. The QS WUR by Subjects are based upon academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. This year’s subject rankings cover a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas, with 85 regions and countries joining in. This year, Zhejiang University has an outstanding performance in terms of the total number of ranked subjects, ranking No2. in Chinese Mainland.

In recent years, the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management has extended its research scenarios from traditional tourism and hotel services to other life service scenarios with the core of user experience, such as health, senior care, and property management, in the mode of "tourism +". The Department is actively exploring new fields of cultural tourism innovation and development research based on the multi-disciplinary integration, and continues to output high-quality scientific research. The Department has published more than 200 papers and more than 30 academic monographs in important domestic and overseas academic journals such as 《Tourism Management》, 《Management World》and 《Sociological Studies》,and has undertaken nearly 30 vertical projects such as the National Science and Technology Support Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Fund of China (including 2 major projects), Social Science Planning Project of the Ministry of Education, Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province, Social Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province (including 5 major projects).

Following the major strategic decision-making deployment of “digital development acceleration” during the 14th Five-Year Plan, the Department is going to further promote cross-disciplines cooperation, focus on "new services for digital life", expand new space for further development of tourism management discipline, and continue to enhance the academic and social influence of the discipline in the new era.
