Employment Quality Report: 2020 graduates’ first-time employment rate reaches 94.8%, despite pandemic impact

The quantity of nationwide graduates in 2020 hit a new record high, reaching 8.74 million, with an increase of 400,000 compared to 2019. Despite the multi-faceted challenges, SOM graduates continue to pursue a diversified set of careers paths across industries, functions, and geographies. By the end of November, 2020, the first-time employment rate of the 2020 graduates of the School has reached 94.8%, the enrollment rate has reached 56.4%, and 51.5% of the graduates working in strategically-oriented geological areas, while the combined quantity of graduates working in the western regions and selected graduates has also increased 4.5% year-on-year.


The School initiated the "Leading Projects", through "Ambition Leading Program", "Pilot Program", and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leading Program", cultivating outstanding talents with management knowledge, scientific and technological insights and humanistic spirit, and contributing to the development of China.


Right after the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, the School quickly pivoted to offer virtual career counseling and recruiting. 26 online career and education advising appointments, 9 offline recruitment sessions with employer partners were held throughout the year; and 18 "Career Pilots" were employed, conducting 540 one-on-one counseling and 1,488 group counseling.
