University-enterprise collaboration are promoted by the center’s first seminar for 2017
2017-10-31

Computer science and network technology have been dramatically progressing. The big data and mobile communications, artificial intelligence has gradually become the focus of our society. In recent years, communication and cooperation among scholars and entrepreneurs are increasingly frequent, which is based on big data studies.
On 22nd January, our International Research Center for Data Analytics and Management, ZJU, held the first seminar for 2017. Some domestic scholars, who are well-known in multiple areas of studies, and some entrepreneurs’ executives, attended the seminar. The thorough discussion topic was about “the application of big data and its future development”.
The seminar involved 28 people, from various universities and enterprises. Among those present were university scholars who specialize in marketing, information management, control science, management engineering, logistics, public health, computer science and other fields, along with entrepreneurs’ executive representatives are from Cainiao, Wenzhou Newford Research Institute of Advanced Technology, Getui, DT Dream and so on. They shared the various academic and practical sectors, as well as a wonderful group discussion.

Academic sharing session (Prof. HUA Zhongsheng)

In the midst of the academic sharing session, two Changjiang Distinguished Scholars- Prof. ZHANG Hui (Tsinghua University) and Prof. HUA Zhongsheng (Zhejiang University), presented cutting-edge academic results and thoughts about “big data and application in the smart city” and “the resource organization and coordination problems and related research in modern service”. They believed that the current research about big data mainly concentrates on interdisciplinary issues, but there is a lack of attempt research on cross-level issues. Meanwhile, those research methods are mainly with small data, small algorithms or small data with the big algorithm. Since the research on big data and the big algorithm is still in its infancy period, algorithms and computing platforms are to be further strengthened in the future.
Associate professor ZHANG Hongxin (from the college of computer science, Zhejiang University), presented the analysis on amazing, semantic and interesting big data, according to the case analysis about phone logs, auto tracks, cloud monitoring, etc. He agreed it is an urgent need to achieve interdisciplinary cooperation, cooperation between colleges and enterprises in the big data research field. From the scheme, the hardware to the algorithm, schools and scientific research institutions undertake the main work. However, to apply academic achievements into practice and products, and to achieve the service for the society will be required to merge from two aspects: experience and talents. He believed that the new entrance will be bound to open up new co-operation and wisdom.

Practical sharing session (Mr. YE Xinjiang, CTO of Getui)

During the practical sharing session, each enterprise representative shared achievements and thinking about big data management. Mr. ZHENG Song (logistics director of Cainiao) mainly introduced the Cainiao network in the logistics industry, as its role of "smart brain", as well as the efforts on backstage supporter divides automatically singly in the supply chain. Dr. WANG Zhenyu (director of Wenzhou Newford Research Institute of Advanced Technology) shared a refinement city management plan, based on big data, including the macroscopic and microscopic analysis of the electronic commerce field in Wenzhou, China, a big data project about the taxi and the application of public safety data, etc. Mr. YE Xinjiang (CTO of Getui) presented the data world from Getui’s perspective and outlooked to the direction of the business cooperation in the future. He also shared his opinion on data links, degree of data privacy, and talent issues.

Group discussion session

The future development of our Center was mainly discussed in the final group discussion session. The Scholars’ views to interdisciplinary collaboration requirements were one of the hot topics. Also, the topic of “how does academia and industry support each other, as to reduce the possibility of self-running” has sparked the discussion of the participants. It also fully complies with the original intention of our international research center, which is committed to promoting academic research cooperation and university-enterprise collaboration.
The International Research Center for Data Analytics and Management, Zhejiang University applies to create opportunities for scholars and experts from different disciplines and excellent internet companies, gathering and sharing opinions to those urgent issues, to serve the need of our society and time, so as to promote research cooperation, university-enterprise collaboration and international cooperation. This seminar is one of the performances of university-enterprise collaboration.
In the coming future, our Center will also construct cooperation platforms; and will promote the cooperation, view-exchange on interdisciplinary and cross-level of each area. Let’s look forward to that it will become one of the top international research centers for big data research.
