June 13th, 2016, the 5th “Entrepreneurship in China” International Summer School kicked off in Zhejiang University. A total of 30 overseas and international students from more than twenty different countries and nine overseas universities joined the program this year. Dean WU Xiaobo gave a welcome speech at the opening ceremony.
The three-week program consisted of a series of academic lectures, company visits and cultural immersion activities. Participants were lectured on a wide range of entrepreneurship related topics such as doing business in China from a cultural perspective, Chinese family business, and global innovation in China. Participants also explored Chinese culture by learning Chinese calligraphy, Chinese Tai Chi, and touring the West Lake. Besides that, they had business trips to Dream Town and Wensli to gain first-hand experience of Chinese entrepreneurship. Throughout the program, participants received academic guidance from 6 ZJU-SOM faculty members who acted as mentors. They also became close friends with our helpful volunteers.
On the last day of the program, each group presented a business plan based on their learning and discussion. The business plan named “SLEEVD” won the first place for its innovation idea of providing silicon coffee sleeves which would indicate the optimal temperate through heat sensitive technology. Associate Dean ZHOU Weihua concluded the summer school. He deemed that the program successfully added to participants’ entrepreneurial skills, helped participants to learn more about Chinese culture, and made connections with potential business partners from all over the world.
