China is now standing at the intersection of new technology evolution, industry revolution and economy transformation. With society and technology advancing, the connotation and denotation of modern service industry is constantly changing and expanding. Like traditional service, modern service still regards people as subject while adding service related to internet into its content. In the 2015 government work report, Premier LI Keqiang first mentioned internet plus initiative, after which internet plus became a hot word in China. The public got excited, some people even started to calculate how much policy bonus they can get and from where. Yet, academician GUO Chongqing warned us on forum that internet plus is disruptive innovation and the process is not easy, it’s painful even confrontational, but the outcome would be a brand new economic society.
In order to know how service science and operation management should react in the context of internet plus, the characteristics of internet economy should be clarified. The internet economy is open, public involved, disintermediated, equal and fair. It weakens spatial differences and information asymmetry while strengthens predominant position of customers. Attendants of the forum gave speeches on the same theme, they introduced current work and latest development of service sciences and operation management and also looked into the prospect future in this area. In the discussion session, people had in-depth exchanges of views and shared their insights with those who don’t address.
