Technological Innovation, Green Finance, and Sustainable Development Forum

Workshop’s Topic: Green development is the foundation for high-quality growth, and new productivity is inherently linked to sustainable productivity. As China enters a phase of rapid development, the hashtag #ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework has become an increasingly important driver of sustainable economic and social progress.

In the face of escalating global climate challenges and rising demands for social responsibility, how can companies achieve economic success while promoting harmony between the environmental, social, and governance dimensions? How can the financial sector undergo a green transformation to achieve high-quality development? What kind of talent is needed in the ESG sector to meet the opportunities and challenges of the future?

These critical issues will be the focus of the "𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺", jointly hosted by Zhejiang University and Singapore Management University, and supported by the Capital Market Research Center of Zhejiang University.

Keynote Speakers

Shawn A. Cole is the John G. McLean Professor in the Finance Unit at Harvard Business School, where he teaches and conducts research on financial services impact investing, and Social Enterprise. He serves as faculty chair of the Social Enterprise Initiative. Much of his research examines corporate and household finance in emerging markets, with a focus on insurance, credit, and savings, He has also done extensive work on financial education, sustainable investing. He has worked in China, India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Vietnam, He is an affiliate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, on the board of the Jameel Poverty Action Lab, as the faculty lead on Corporate Engagement. Before joining the Harvard Business School Professor Cole worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in the economic research department, He has served on the Boston Federal Reserve’s Community Development Research Advisory Council, served as an external advisor to the Gates Foundation, and was the chair of the endowment management committee of the Telluride Association, a non-profit educational organization. He is a cofounder and board member of a non-profit, Precision Agriculture for Development.

Dr. ZHANG Bei is focusing on the research of green finance and international finance covering taxonomy, environment information disclosure, policy lever etc. She is the co-chair of the Taxonomies and Definitions Workstream of the China-Singapore Green Finance Taskforce. She previously served as the Deputy Director-General of the Research Institute of PBC. Prior to that she worked for the Monetary Policy Department of PBC for about 19 years. Her research interests focused on monetary policy framework, inflation expectation, macroprudential policy, etc.

Dr. Hao Liang is an Associate Professor of Finance, the Co-Director of the Singapore Green Finance Centre, and the Co-Lead of the Sustainable Business Research Peak at SMU. Additionally, he serves on the Steering Committee of the Impact & Sustainable Finance Faculty Consortium, the Scientific Committee of the Geneva Centre for Philanthropy, the Technical Committee for Sustainable Finance of Enterprise Singapore, and has been nominated to the China ESG 30 Forum by Caixin Magazine. Dr. Liangs research interests include sustainable finance, impact investing, corporate finance, and governance. Dr. Liang received the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability Emerging Scholar Award in 2020 and has twice won the prestigious Moskowitz Prize for Socially Responsible Investing (2014 & 2019).
