Complementary Assets Configuration and Organizational Linkages for Value Creation:A Multi-Case Study of Focal Firms' Role Transition in Ecosystems
2024-06-26

Workshop’s Topic: How firms achieve role transitions within ecosystems through Complementary Assets Configuration is a critical question. Using an in-depth multiple case study of six firms in the Chinese high-tech industry, we develop a theoretical framework explaining how firms achieve role transitions in ecosystems over time. This study detail show these companies responded to such transitions by creating new ecosystems. We identify an assets configuration strategy that integrates internal assets with external partners’ assets and inter-organizational linkages. Overall, our research contributes to the understanding of ecosystem strategy, highlighting the pivotal role of complementary assets configuration and shedding light on the enabling and influencing mechanisms that bridge the gap between internal capabilities and external partnerships.
