In the blink of an eye, the end of another year has come upon us. In retrospect, thanks to the continuous efforts and accomplishments made in 2022, it can be deduced that all of us have been working inexhaustibly throughout the year. The wheel of time never stops, so we have been moving forward ceaselessly; compelled and ready to face all the thistles and thorns we encounter on the way ahead.

Provide a "Chinese Model" for Business Education in the World In October, 2022, the "Business Plus" education ecosystem achieved a well-deserved recognition in the international journal ‘Management and Organization Review’. Wei Jiang and Zhang Chong yuan, the Dean, and a professor respectively of the School of Management in Zhejiang University, were invited by the journal to jointly write an article that provides commentary to Professor Carl Fey’s expectations for business education in China with the "Business Plus" education ecosystem. Management Science and Engineering Was Included in the Second Round of the “Double First-class” List In February 2022, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission published the second list of First-class universities and Disciplines of the world, also called “Double First-Class”. The Management Science & Engineering program offered by the School of Management in Zhejiang University was successfully included in the first-class disciplines list! The Management Science & Engineering program has made new breakthroughs and assumed new missions, after being rated as "one of the 12 most significantly improved disciplines of Zhejiang University" by the Ministry of Education (the only selected discipline in the field of humanities and social sciences of Zhejiang University).

"Virtual Teaching and Research Office for Management Courses" Led by Xing Yiqun, Was Welected for the First Batch of National Virtual Teaching and Research Offices to be Constructed as Pilots In February, 2022, the General Office of the Ministry of Education issued a document announcing the “List of First Batch of Virtual Teaching and Research Offices to Be Constructed as Pilots". A total of seven virtual teaching and research offices of Zhejiang University were selected, and the "Virtual Teaching and Research Office for Management Courses" led by Professor Xing Yiqun was one of them. This is an important breakthrough made by the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, in the construction of foundational teaching organizations, and an important exploration in promoting the high-quality development of management education in China during the information age.

Five Scholars from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, Were Included in the List of the "Most Frequently Cited Scholar in China" in 2021, and Zhejiang University Ranked Second Among All Universities and Colleges in Terms of the Number of Shortlisted Scholars. In April, 2022, Elsevier, a global information analysis company, officially released the list of "Most Frequently Cited Scholars in China" in 2021. A total of five scholars from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, were shortlisted. They were Hua Zhongsheng and Ma Qingguo from the Management Science and Engineering discipline, and Shi Junqi, Zhou Xinyue and Zhou Honggeng from the Business Administration discipline. It is worth mentioning that they have been shortlisted frequently since the list was released for the first time in 2015.

First-class Courses at the Provincial Level - These Undergraduate Courses Desired by Business Students Were Shortlisted In November, 2022, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education announced the first-class undergraduate courses at provincial level (including online first-class courses, offline first-class courses and online-offline integrated first-class courses) and first-class undergraduate internationalization courses at the provincial level for the year 2022. They Set an Example To Follow as a Result of Answering These Three Questions In November, 2022, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education decided to establish the 2022 Provincial Demonstration Course of Ideological and Political Curriculum, the Research Project of Ideological and Political Teaching, the Grass-root Teaching Organization of Ideological and Political Teaching, as well as the Research and Demonstration Center of Ideological and Political Teaching. Zhejiang Science and Technology Progress Award In July, 2022, Zhejiang’s Provincial Department of Science and Technology released the list of winners of Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Award in 2021. Professor Zhou Weihua of Zhejiang University’s School of Management, secured the third prize for his project "Coordinated Management of Supply Chain and Research on Bullwhip Effect".

2022 Excellent Cultural and Tourism Research Results In October, 2022, the China Tourism Academy (the Data Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism) released the list of 2022 Excellent Cultural and Tourism Research Results. Professor Wu Maoyings team and Professor Ying Tianyus team from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, won the first prize in academic paper and research report respectively. This was the first time that the tourism management discipline of Zhejiang University’s School of Management, won two excellent achievement awards in culture and tourism at the same time. Meanwhile, the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, is the only one school among all competitors to won two first prizes in the selection.

The Project of Hua Zhongsheng’s Team Passed Approved the National Key R&D Program In November, 2022, the HDRDC and the Ministry of Science and Technology organized a review meeting of experts for a comprehensive performance evaluation of the national key R&D program. (R&D and application demonstration of science and technology consulting service platform based on model innovation). This meeting was led by Professor Hua Zhongsheng from the School of Management Zhejiang University, and the group of experts agreed that the aforementioned project has achieved the objectives and tasks defined in the assignment book on schedule with good quality, and the comprehensive performance of the project is clearly excellent.

Huang Liqiang’s Team and Their Project Supported Agricultural Development in Yunnan To solve the problems of "small-scale, scattered and disordered" agriculture and the management difficulties of farmers encountered in Yunnan, Professor Huang Liqiang from the School of Management, Zhejiang University brought Zhejiang’s advanced experience and concepts regarding digital transformation of enterprises and the construction of "digital brain" to the west. In the last four years, he instructed his team to conduct field research in Yunnan , assisted Yuntianhua Group to promote the digital transformation of the agricultural industry; therefore, successfully maximizing the value of agricultural land, and improving the quality and productivity of agricultural products in an intelligent and efficient way. According to the feedback of Yuntianhua Group, the achievements of this project have produced a series of achievements since they were officially put into use in March 2022.

The Study of Wei Jiang’s Team Was Approved to Be Established as a Project with the Theme of "Common Prosperity". In March 2022, the review results of the 2021 themed case collection organized by the Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education were released. The Case Study on Promoting Common Prosperity through Social Entrepreneurship: Zhejiang Practice and Exploration, as published by Professor Wei Jiang, Dean of the School of Management Zhejiang University, as the chief expert, passed the review and was approved to be established as a project with the theme of "Common Prosperity".

Ying Tianyu and his Team’s project made it to the China’s Top 100 Excellent Projects List In April, 2022, the review meeting of 13th “China’s Top 100 Excellent Management Cases" was held online. Ying Tianyu, a researcher in Zhejiang University’s school of management, with his team, successfully put forth: The Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility in an Innovative Way: Zhejiang Merchants Practice of Cultural and Tourism Industry Enabling the Achievement of Common Prosperity in Urban and Rural Area; a project that after being reviewed, was awarded the title of key project of the 13th “China’s Top 100 Excellent Management Cases". This is the fourth time that the scholars from ZJU’s School of Management were included in this list.

Wu Maoying’s Team Enhanced the Influence of Grand Canal International Tourism In order to enhance the influence of Chinese culture and boost international tourism on the Grand Canal, the team of Wu Maoying from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, made a comprehensive arrangement around the theme, intensity of experience and enjoyment of canal tourism for international tourists, and put forward countermeasures and suggestions for the related problems that affect the enjoyment of canal tourism experience of international tourists. In July, 2022, his research results were published in China Tourism Daily (the 3rd edition).

Kong Xiangwei’s Team Explored How to Ensure the Reliability of Decision Making in AI-Enabled Systems Many unpredictable risks and accidents caused by artificial intelligence in high-risk application scenarios such as automatic driving and intelligent medical treatment might lead to a lack of trust in AI enabled decision-making systems. With this context in mind, Professor Kong Xiangwei’s team from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, carried out a research around "Reliable Decision-making of AI-enabled System: Progress and Challenges". Their research results were first published online in the Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management in April, 2022.

Kong Xiangwei’s Team Explored the Prospects of a New Management Discipline In order to cope with another round of scientific, technological, and industrial reform, undergraduate education in economics and management must be integrated with digital economic thinking; thus, transforming the teaching paradigm is paramount in the age of artificial intelligence. Professor Kong Xiangwei’s team took the digital intelligence teaching practice of undergraduate Zhejiang University’s School of Management, as an example, and made a beneficial attempt to explore its prospects from three perspectives: innovative teaching, curriculum content reconstruction, and teaching resource allocation. They discovered a thematic vertical-horizontal teaching model featuring the integration of arts and science; and provided instances and references to design courses related to digital intelligence. Their achievements were published in the 8th issue of the China University Teaching journal in 2022.

Wu Maoying’s Team Discovered that the “Ceremony” Can Boost the Realization of Common Prosperity The story of the revitalization and development of Zhinan Village in Linan District, Hangzhou, was widely praised as a model for rural revitalization and common prosperity. After nearly two years of tracking and field research, Wu Maoying’s team from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, discovered a unique phenomenon of micro-interpersonal interaction among the villagers in the Zhinan Village. Following a theoretical framework of interaction ceremony, the team explored the micro evolution mechanism of "tourism development - daily interaction - social relations". This research has contributed in the high-quality development of cultural tourism industry and the realization of common prosperity in rural area. The results were published in the Journal of Travel Research, an esteemed international journal in the field of tourism research.

Wei Jiang’s Team Expressed Their Opinions on the Construction of “Chinese School” The management practice of China is facing the problem of reductive labeling in the international academic community. Some western scholars appear to have a prejudiced and narrow interpretation of Chinese management practices; in terms of concept, cognition, and method. Centering on this issue, Professor Wei Jiang’s team from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, conducted a research regarding "the West Meets the East: the Cognitive Intolerance and Reflection of China’s Management Practice", and recommended that the discourse power of Chinese philosophy and social sciences ought to be enhanced. The achievements were published in the well-known domestic management journal - Management World, Volume 38, Issue 11, 2022.

A Professor and His Team Set a Goal to Enhance the World’s Understanding About the Innovation in China In July, 2022, the e-book named Resilience and Ingenuity: Global Innovation Responses to Covid-19 was jointly published by the British Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the European Patent Office (EPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). As a Chinese expert who participated in the compilation of the book, Professor Huang Can from the Zhejiang University’s School of Management, and Associate Professor Zhang Yurong from the School of Law of Shanghai University explored and analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on China’s innovation from multi-dimensional standpoints; providing significant reference materials for the world to understand China’s innovation in the context of the COVID-19.

How Effective is an Innovation-Driven Development? Professor Guo Bin’s Team Revealed the Current Situation of Innovation in Chinese Enterprises. In August, 2022, the 2022 Innovation Index Report of China’s Listed Companies, as compiled by the research team of Professor Guo Bin of the School of Management Zhejiang University, was jointly released by the School of Management and Shenxin Communication Think Tank of Shenzhen Press Group. The report evaluated 2,842 Chinese A-share listed companies based on an evaluation model that considers innovation power and innovation efficiency, and elected the Top 500 China’s Listed Companies in terms of the innovation index.

Analyzing the Data of 719 Listed Companies, They Reinterpreted the Connotation of “Specialization, Refinement, Differentiation, and Innovation” What are the problems faced by the "Little Giant" SRDI enterprises in their current development process? Is "Domestic Replacement" worth “Specialization, Refinement, Differentiation, and Innovation”? In response to these problems, the team of Professor Guo Bin from the School of Management Zhejiang University, along with the Ernst & Young Research Institute and other institutions, formed a research group to perform an in-depth analysis of the development trend of listed SRDI companies, and jointly released the Report on Innovation and Development of Listed SRDI Companies (2022).
