The first CEEMAN Lounge: online discussion on Reimagining Management Education - Challenges and Opportunities in the "New Reality" was held on Wednesday, 6 May 2020. CEEMAN Lounge is a new platform to share and discuss some of the key questions management education is facing, bringing insights from CEEMAN membership and experts. WEI Jiang, Dean of ZJU-SOM, was invited to delivered his opinion at the panel discussion.
The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has created a new reality for management education institutions which revolutionizes the online learning landscape and calls for radical decisions with far reaching impacts on the society. The questions, like " What is your school/university most struggling with as it adapts to the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic?", "What are the opportunities for management education in the new reality?" and “what is the way forward for management education?” were explored together with three academic leaders representing Africa, China and Europe.
“No challenge, no change,” said Dean WEI. “We must make a strategy to change our routine or methodology of business education, maybe there will be a new way to lead the economy and to reach the entrepreneurs. So it’s time for leading business schools to change the crisis to opportunity, to change what is the social responsibility and what is the function of research.” Dean WEI also put forward some thoughts, aiming at what is the way forward for business schools during the post-epidemic period. First, business schools shall rethink the social responsibility, response to the need of society and provide the solutions. Second, change the mindset of research, building a close link with business and government. Third, change the globalization strategy of business schools by online or virtual education.
