On 20th and 21st June, led by Prof. ZHOU Weihua, associate dean of School of Management (SOM), delegation of School of Management Zhejiang University (ZJU-SOM) attended joint workshop on Digital Economy in Tilburg University. Prof. WU Xiaobo and other scholars from SOM presented their researches, Prof. HUANG Can from SOM and Prof. Frans Greidanus chaired the session in the workshop. The workshop was held in the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS), which is a collaboration between the Province of North Brabant, the Municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology dedicated to fostering leading talents in data science and developing high-level academic research.
The purpose of this workshop is to strengthen the collaboration between Tilburg University and Zhejiang University, and to provide an opportunity for scholars from both sides to showcase their research, get to know each other’s research interests and explore future collaboration opportunities.

On 20th June, delegation of ZJU-SOM was invited to lunch with the mayor Jack Mikkers, vice-mayor of Den Bosch, Jan Hoskam, and president of Tilburg University, Dr. Koen Becking in City Hall, and were warmly welcomed by the king’s commissioner, governor of the Province of North Brabant, Prof. Wim van de Donk, vice-governor of the Province of North Brabant and deans of Tilburg University during the dinner. Meanwhile Prof. WU Xiaobo introduced history and stories of Zhejiang, Hangzhou, Zhejiang University and SOM.

The second day started with the discussion of collaboration between Tilburg University and Zhejiang University. Berry Bonenkamp, project officer for China related projects at NWO, gave a presentation on opportunity of joint research fund application. In the afternoon, the delegates visited High-tech Campus in Eindhoven and Royal Dutch Philips Electronics Ltd. to learn the status of the technology hotspot in Europe with many start-ups and entrepreneurs, and experience of transformation from classic company into the digital era.
Netherlands currently ranks at the forefront of economic growth in European countries. In the Province of North Brabant, a data industry ecosystem with close cooperation between industry and research has formed and a number of data-related startups established, which attracts multinational high-tech enterprises to invest in business.
The collaboration between Tilburg University and School of Management Zhejiang University is fruitful since the visit of president of Tilburg University Dr. Koen Becking in Oct., 2016 and the visit of Prof. ZHOU Weihua for the 90-year anniversary festivities of Tilburg University in Nov., 2017. In 2018 and 2019, SOM sent doctoral program students to Tilburg School of Economics and Management for exchange. The further cooperation and exchange plans were set in this workshop, including the exchange of doctoral program students, scholar visit, fund application of joint research and the second workshop in Hangzhou in 2020.
