Junior World Entrepreneurship Salon 2019: sparkle of thoughts

On 23rd May, with the theme of Innovation-Based Entrepreneurship: Creating a Bright Future, Junior World Entrepreneurship Salon 2019 was successfully held in Zijingang campus, Zhejiang University. Prof. WU Xiaocheng, Vice president of Zhejiang University, ZHENG Guangxin, Dean of Undergraduate School (UGRS), WEI Jiang, Dean of School of Management (SOM), Chuck Eesley, Associate Professor of STVP, Stanford University, Mathew Hughes, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Loughborough University, overseas entrepreneurs, domestic well-known companies, school faculty and students attended this event.

The event aims to inspire dream holders and entrepreneurs through idea exchange, as well as to shed some lights on the future of technology and trend of global entrepreneurship. “Innovative entrepreneurship still has a long way to go. Future entrepreneurship requires entrepreneurs to be cooperative, co-creative and shared, so that speed and quality of startups will be improved and the effect of 1+1>2 will be realized.” said Prof. WU in the opening speech.


Hosted by ZHENG Gang, Director of ZTVP, ZJU, Prof. Eesley, Prof. Huges and Prof. WEI introduced their researches in the salon. Prof. Eesley shared history and current status in terms of high-tech startups in Stanford and used data to elaborate Stanford University’s Economic Impact via Innovation and entrepreneurship. He said like Stanford, Zhejiang University has a strong entrepreneurial atmosphere. “University is like a magnet attracting young entrepreneurs together and encourages them to start businesses. Support and entrepreneurial education from school are very important, as it provides with nutrition of knowledge, whilst its various practices and connections can clear barriers of entrepreneurship.” said Prof. Eesley.

Prof. Hughes’s research, The Dark side of Ambidexterity, stated organizations need to find a proper balance by utilizing and exploring, which connects with the survival of an enterprise.

In the perspective of 40 years of entrepreneurship in China, Prof. Wei expressed his strong confidence to the potential of Chinese innovative entrepreneurship through a deep observation of daily life. Meanwhile he stressed entrepreneurs need to keep up with time, be tech-driven, understand China, respect humanity and recognize the value of talents.

During Presentation of Young Entrepreneurs, 5 entrepreneurs from all over the world shared their stories. John Lynn, founder and mentor of Cela Innovation, told stories of entrepreneurship in New York and his views on the trend of startup. The female entrepreneur, Carol Barash expressed her intention of business starting. Allen Kamrava, founder and CEO of Eusoh, Coen Jassen, founder and CEO of Hiber Global, Li Chao, co-founder of Yunshenchu Technology also delivered their insights and experience. At the same time, guests exchanged their opinions and suggestions in terms of financing, the balance between study and entrepreneurship, and avoiding entrepreneurial risks.

Following with the salon, Idea International Pitch Show and a banquet were held as well. The event provided a chance of deep communication to entrepreneurs and investors, also reflected the desire from entrepreneurship for technical creation and industry convergence.
