On Thursday, November 16th prof. Weihua Zhou attended the 90-year anniversary festivities of Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Tilburg University specializes in economics, management, law, behavioral sciences, humanities, and theology. In several scientific fields, it is active in it ranks amongst the top in the world. Prof. Zhou was warmly welcomed when he arrived on Wednesday evening November 15th at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport by Mr. Marshall Ma, Chairman of the Chinese Students Association of Tilburg University who accompanied him to his hotel in Tilburg.
On Thursday during the day, Prof. Zhou had several meetings with colleagues from Tilburg University and explored opportunities for joint research and double degree programs. At 15:00 the official anniversary ceremony started, with this year’s theme: The Digital Society. The ceremony was opened with speeches by the President, Dr. Koen Becking, and the Rector, Prof. dr. Emile Aarts from Tilburg University. Prof. dr. Alexander Rinnooy Kan and Prof. dr. Eleonore Stump received honorary doctor degrees. The ceremony was followed by a reception and dinner. As is common practice at official events at Dutch Universities, the professors are dressed in ceremonial clothing as you can see on the picture taken during the reception. On Friday morning November 17th Prof. Zhou continued his travel in Europe to Lausanne, Switzerland, where he attended the QTEM (Quantitative Techniques for Economics & Management Masters Network) Meeting.
