About the speaker: Gerard (Gerry) George is Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Deputy Dean of the Business School at Imperial College London, where he also serves as Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre.Gerry publishes on the topics of resource assembly in new ventures, absorptive capacity, capability development, organizational learning, and open innovation. His recent work investigates business models and organizational design in different contexts such as technology commercialization, emerging markets (particularly India and China), and resource-deprived environments. He was awarded a prestigious Professorial Fellowship from the UK's Economic and Social Research Council to work on inclusive innovation in multiple settings including prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and rural electrification in Kenya, among others. He has published in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management Studies, Research Policy and Strategic Management Journal, among others. He has published two books, Models of Opportunity: How Entrepreneurs Design Firms to Achieve the Unexpected (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and Inventing Entrepreneurs: Technology Innovators and their Entrepreneurial Journey (Prentice Hall, 2008). He has guest edited special issues on West meets East (AMJ), innovation for inclusive growth (JMS), and national culture and entrepreneurship (ET&P). He received his PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University.
