ZJU-SOM Delegation Attended 2014 World Entrepreneurship Forum in Lyon

On Oct 21st, as the co-founder of the World Entrepreneurship Forum, the ZJU-SOM delegation attended the 7th World Entrepreneurship Forum with world entrepreneurs in Leon. The theme of this Forum was " Entrepreneurship 3.0: Unlimited Opportunities".

Vice Party Secretary REN Shaobo addressed the audience representing Zhejiang University. He invited people to attend the 8th World Entrepreneurship Forum held in Hangzhou next year. Dean of the School Prof. WU Xiaobo introduced Hangzhou, Zhejiang University and the School of Management to all participants.

Several distinguished speakers also made keynote speeches. Ms. Letizia Molatti, former Italian Minister of Education and former Mayor of Milan introduced the concept of socio-economic enterprises for bridging the gap in society. Mr. Richard Eu talked about his experience of handling failures in his family business while increasing family values in his organizational hierarchy. The 2012 Young Australia of the Year Ms. Marita Chang, described her journey from starting a simple university workshop on robotics to owning her company Robogals Global. The last speaker, Mr. Chief Nyamweya, spoke about how he embedded happiness in the core values of his business.

2014 Winner of the Award “Entrepreneur for the World”:

1. Young Entrepreneur Winner Rapelang Rabana (Botswana/South Africa) recently set up Rekindle Learning, a start-up that offers innovative e-learning solutions for mobiles and tablets users that has had an impact on the whole of Africa.

2. Social Entrepreneur Winner Rodrigo Baggio (Brazil) was regarded by Time Magazine as one of the leading powers of the 21st Century in Latin America. Former IBM employee, computer geek and digital activist, he owned his first computer at the age of 12 and in 1995 created the Committee for Democracy in Information Technology (CDI).

3. Educational Entrepreneur Winner Bertil Hult (Sweden/Switzerland) was among the first to create a language teaching research and development centre incorporating a wide range of innovative, educational methods. Education First, EF is the official supplier of language training to the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

4. Business Entrepreneur Winner Micky and Renuka Jagtiani (India/United Emirates). The former London taxi driver, Micky is the founder of the Landmark Group conglomerate that has a portfolio of brands in fashion, consumer electronics, hotel and catering, restaurants, retail and footwear. Regarded as one of the top 100 most influent Indian company bosses in the Gulf, his adventure began in 1973 in Bahrain when he set up his first shop. His wife Renuka is also highly implicated in the group that is based in Dubai and present in 18 countries.
