Bridging Business Opportunities between East and West
2013-06-30

Co-hosted by School of Management Zhejiang University and IESE Business School, two high-end talks between academics and business leaders from China and Spain were held at IESE Barcelona Campus, Spain in June, 2013. Dean WU Xiaobo, Associate Dean CHEN Ling, and IESE Professor Pedro Nueno, President of CEIBS attended the events together with well-known entrepreneurs from both countries.

Dialogue Between Two Nations

The dialogue was centered around “Globalization, Innovation and Investment.” As a result, a report was presented later identifying growth and opportunities in five industries of both countries: automobiles, agrifood, real estate, tourism, and fashion and luxury goods. The report was an international joint effort by both academic institutions in collaboration with Horizon Research Consultancy and Barcelona Fang.

As Professor WU pointed out, the expanding middle class and changes in Chinese consumers’ consumption concept all together signified the right time for cross-country investment, offering great potential for domestic Chinese entrepreneurs and Chinese entrepreneurs living in Spain.

International Rose Dialogue

International Rose Dialogue was followed on the same day, attended by outstanding female entrepreneurs from both China and Spain. Participants shared their opinions in relation to health, education, children, and fashion.

It was also the first global appearance for the School’s EMBA Rose Club. The Rose Club was formed voluntarily by successful female entrepreneurs enrolled in ZJU EMBA classes. In the past five years, they have been known for their commitment and support to community and charity work. “Females are usually adhesives in a class,” commented Professor WU, “Rose Club’s growing influence reflects the increasing proportion of women entrepreneurs and their changing status in business communities.”
