ZJU-SOM Undergraduates' Study Tour to Hong Kong
2014-09-20

During September 11 to 15, 2014, ZJU-SOM Delegation, consisted of undergraduates from the School, paid a visit to four Hong Kong universities, including Hong Kong University (HKU), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The delegation was accompanied by TONG Nian from International Affairs Office, and WANG Zhenzhen from Academic Affairs Office.

The five-day visiting program was specifically designed to enhance the communication between the students in both mainland and Hong Kong, in terms of academic exchange, campus life, and career development, etc.

The delegation was given the introduction about the history and development of these universities. During their stay in PolyU, they visited the House of Innovation in which the delegates were overwhelmed by various innovation products, such as Eco-Block for Air Purification, Smart Core-Shell Nanosorbents for Wastewater Treatment and Solar Powered Air Conditioning System for Vehicles. In Pao Yu-Kong Library, a 3-D Printer caught much of the attention. The fully equipped Student Halls of Residence with dancing rooms, gyms, piano rooms, kitchens, and dining rooms also amazed the delegates.

The delegates were also given the opportunity to experience a different teaching style by participating in a lecture on Entrepreneurship, taught by Dr. and Prof. Eric LAM from Department of Management and Marketing, PolyU, and Advanced Financial Accounting in HKU.

The students on both sides were also able to enhance mutual understanding though the group discussions on various interesting topics, ranging from the popular TVB dramas to tourist attractions around the world. The common interests and the passion to explore the cultural differences among the youth brought them closer.

The trip helped the students to gain deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s history and multinational culture, to broaden their horizon, and to better plan their future study and career, which conformed to the Schools guiding principles for research and education: globalization, innovation, entrepreneurship and responsibility.
