Workshop’s Topic: Seminar’s Topic: The introduction of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022, marked the beginning of a new era in generative AI technology. The emergence of DeepSeek in early 2025 has further promoted AI equality and sparked a global surge in interest. As a business researcher and educator, I have been reflecting on and practicing how to (1) create more meaningful research, (2) cultivate students who are better prepared for the AI-native era, and (3) generate business impact amidst the influence of AI. In this lecture, I will share my personal exploration of integrating AI into technology. I will discuss business research and education from the perspectives of research, teaching, and business practice, along with the gains, challenges, and lessons I have learned during this exploration process. Scholars Background ZHANG Renyu is an Associate Professor (tenured) at the Business School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and serves as the Tech Lead at Kuaishou. His research focuses on AI and data science to inform business decisions, particularly in large language models, machine learning, and data-driven optimization for online platforms. His work has been published in top journals like Management Science and Operations Research, and he has received multiple awards, including from INFORMS and POM. Funded by organizations like NSFC and Tencent, he also serves as Associate Editor for Operations Research and Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management. He teaches data science and operations research at CUHK, NYU, and Kuaishou, and has developed methodologies for optimizing platform growth.
