Dr. Yan “Anthea” Zhang, member of ZJU-SOM International Advisory Board, will take her role as the President-Elect of Strategic Management Society (SMS) in the coming January.

Dr. Zhang has served in multiple roles for the SMS over the last twenty years, and has been on the board of directors for the past six years. She seeks to both expand SMS’s presence on a global scale and increase the diversity and inclusivity of the SMS community. “As President, I would continue to support these initiatives as well as foster new endeavors to engage our diverse constituents.” Dr. Zhang said at her nomination statement.

SMS is a unique organization in bringing together the worlds of reflective practice and thoughtful scholarship. Consisting of over 3,000 members representing a kaleidoscope of backgrounds and perspectives from more than 80 different countries, SMS plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive academic community for strategy scholars around the globe.

Dr. Zhang is a professor and the Fayez Sarofim Vanguard Chair of Strategic Management at the Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University. Her areas of specialization include CEO succession and corporate governance, as well as foreign direct investment and technology entrepreneurship in emerging markets. Her research has been published in top-tier business journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Marketing Research, among others.
