Prof. Karl T. Ulrich, Vice Dean of Innovation, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania held an open class on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Zhejiang University on October 16, 2014.
In the lecture, Prof. Ulrich laid out the four key principles for managing innovation tournaments by raising the examples of Apple and Google. Then he applied those principles in tackling real innovation challenge, both identifying and selecting exceptional opportunities for innovation. The participants were able to understand how to improve the performance of the innovation processes they use in their own organizations, and develop skill in applying several practical tools for generating and selecting opportunities for innovation.
Karl T. Ulrich is Vice Dean of Innovation and the CIBC Professor of Entrepreneurship and e-Commerce at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds an appointment as Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His research is focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and product development.
He is the co-author of Product Design and Development (5th Edition, McGraw-Hill, 2011), a textbook used by a quarter of a million students worldwide. His most recent book is Innovation Tournaments (Harvard Business Press, 2009).
